well-being
“Well-being…hmmm….let me tell you a story. It’s a silly story. It’s a story you’ve often heard bits and pieces of but maybe you need to hear it again. It’s about a girl, who loves a boy….a kindred spirit, if you will….
The girl…she’s a silly dreamer. She dreams of the day she will find the boy that’s a butterfly just like she is. Neither caging the other. These 2 butterflies fly free, roaming and learning but still always near and dear to one another. And then!…she thought she found him! Oh wow! What a beautiful butterfly! She kept her cool as usual, butterflies don’t want to be caged, they don’t want pressure! But the boy saw signs that the girl was falling for him and he warned her, that he was not this particular butterfly that she sought…although he would enjoy flying around with her for a bit. She heard the warnings….but didn’t understand…they didn’t make sense….so she started to dream again. She dreamt that he would love her and let her fly when she wanted to and she would do the same for him….She dreamt that he would take her on adventures in the woods. He would teach her fun things that he knows…like how to tie knots! And how to ride her bike better and how to survive if she were to fall in that water! And she dreamt of how she would take him places….those places that she holds so dear like new york! And new Orleans! And she would show him the things that she loves, and knows he would love too. And they would have fun!! And they would love. And they would fly. And then, from time to time he would leave. He would travel the world for weeks at a time helping others and learning of new places. And sometimes she would do the same. But they would always come back to one another….these 2 butterflies mingling….they would share their adventures with one another and then there would be times when they would travel together…those times would be something special. But perhaps the best times would be those when the 2 would be at home….they would sit on the balcony sharing wine and stories, take the dogs to the park, lie in bed exploring bodies, walk through alleys doing nothing….nothing….and that would be delightful. She just enjoyed being with that boy who made her smile…such a beautiful butterfly he was…made her heart swell! It was hard for her, when she did spend time with this boy, to show how she felt…she could sometimes allude to it with words…perhaps over too many rum n cokes, while bitching about the attention he would give others or lack of given to her. But she was never completely honest about her dreams because she knew he did not share this dream and there would be rejection and she would ultimately lose him …and the girl, well, her biggest fears are rejection and loss….but trying to protect herself didn’t save her from hurt…at times she would swell with anger and then fall to the ground crushed and unable to fly because she would realize the boy still didn’t love her. Then time would pass and she would go back to her dream because it felt good….and the cycle would repeat…over and over….and of course….the girl continues to dream…..”
